Best gun

In your opinion what is the best gun to have at home to protect your family? And what is the best way to store it? I currently have a Ruger GP100 that I keep at my bedside table. Reduced recoil, still very lethal at home distances. I feel like revolvers are (somewhat) Idiot proof. No safety, no mag, no FTF, no FTE. But I do wonder about dealing with multiple assailants, as well as the “visual” stopping power of a shotgun or AR-15. Most people make a quick about face when they see a double barrel staring back at them 😂 Thinking about upgrading/expanding due to some recent neighborhood activity (my neighbor Bev got her tires slashed and her dog got crushed by the car drooping down on it).
